Canmore & Banff...
sister communities in the
Canadian Rockies.
About Canmore
Canmore was founded in 1883. Until 1979 it served as a railway division point
and a mining community. In more recent years it has attracted visitors from all
over the world for all that it has to offer. In 1988 Canmore hosted the Nordic
events of the Calgary Winter Olympics. Today the town with stunning views,
superb accommodations, countless activities and adventures, is a prime
alternative to some of the better known Rocky Mountain Resorts. It is recognized
world-wide as an outdoor recreational and adventure centre, with prized real
estate.
Canmore is set in the Bow Valley in the midst of the Canadian Rockies. It is
just 22 km east of Banff and 106 km west of Calgary via the Trans Canada
Highway. It is only one and a half hours west of Calgary’s International
Airport.
I truly believe that Canmore offers something for everyone. When it comes to
beautiful mountain landscapes Canmore offers some of the most stunning on Earth.
With an abundance of activities for all seasons, locals and regular visitors who
already know a lot about Canmore and its area, still find new things to see and
do.
Protecting the variety of wildlife and its habitat is a key part of maintaining
the natural environment Canmore is so well enjoyed for. It is quite common to
come across an elk, moose, big horn sheep, deer, bear, cougar, beaver or coyote
and for that Canmore is quite rare.
Some of the well enjoyed outdoor activities include downhill and cross-country
skiing, ice skating, dog sledding, snowshoeing, golfing, mountain biking,
whitewater paddling/rafting, fishing, Heli sightseeing, horseback riding,
caving, climbing, bird watching, hiking or simply sitting back and enjoying the
scenery.
Canmore also has an amazing array of restaurants. It ranges from great family
restaurants to a variety of refined culinary experiences. The town also has a
strong arts community with numerous events throughout the year.
